out of line theatre

*Founded in Winnipeg, Canada (2003-2016), the combination of Mia van Leeuwen & Ian Mozdzen’s energy, imagination, rigorous work ethic, deranged sense of play, and willingness to take risks = resulted in the creation of 10 original works, various shorter projects, and two national tours of their unabashed Peepshow: An Erotic Comedy (2004-2006). *Other founding members of out of line theatre include Glenn Hall and Dr. Claire Borody (2003-2005).

The idiom which gave the company its name — “out of line” — indicates the company’s (admittedly, idealist) philosophy. The work produced was meant to be “out of line”; that’s to say “improper” and “not in accordance with what is expected.” The company promoted this kind of theatrical conduct because its members acknowledged the inestimable value of what lies beyond the margins of what is acceptable.
